For this project, we had to create a form using only one everyday object (at least 100 pieces of that individual object needed to be included.) I choose to use the plastic size markers that are on the tops of clothing hangers at retail stores. The first reason I choose to do this is because I could easily get as many as I needed for free from my job! I also liked the idea that they could connect by themselves and I found the letters and numbers printed on them interesting. My original sketches included many geometric shapes. I began by connecting and gluing small sections and then I started gluing the sections together to see what shapes I could make that wouldn’t necessarily be obvious (like a square.) My sculpture began to take on a menacing look, almost like a imaginary bug with lots of legs that is willing you into it’s clutches. The pull towards this idea drove me in my completion of the pieces. From different angles and lighting the pieces does not look like a bug, it looks more like a design. I used about 200 plastic pieces and clear cement made for plastics. It stands about 9 inches high and wide.
